HOW DO YOU ACHIEVE PERSONAL BALANCE?
I think a huge part of being able to be grateful and be a great mom is taking good care of yourself, which we often don't do as moms. We make ourselves the last priority and then everything in our lives ends up suffering.
I have been on a journey the last couple years to take care of myself better and better and know it's okay to have time for myself to de-compress, do something filling, and invest in my own health and wellness. You have to put on your own oxygen mask first before you put on someone else's right?
WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES / REWARDS OF MOTHERHOOD?
I'm a homeschooling mom of 4 kiddos. I never thought I'd home school but when my oldest son lost his love of learning at school, and it came time to enroll my daughter, I just decided we were going to try it. Two years in, we are loving it and it has been a huge blessing for bringing our family closer, for developing a love of learning with my kids and allowing me to be a huge part of their development and growth.
At the same time I home-school, I also run two businesses from my home. It has been pretty stressful and very draining, so I just hired a nanny to come for a couple hours a week, and I think it will be a huge help. Don't be afraid to ask for help. I knew I might get judged for getting help, but I also know I need to go with my gut and do what's best for our family. And I think that goes for all mothers - you know what your child needs. You will come up against all kinds of hard decision and you will conflicted and unsure about what's best. Be educated on the topic, but then make the decision YOU are comfortable with and know will be best.
HOW DO YOU BALANCE CAREER AND FAMILY?
It is definitely a challenge to be with my children almost every hour of every day with a husband who works long hours. But I know I will miss these days if I am not present, and I try to cling to the fact that I only get these moments with them once. They are going to grow up and my purpose as their mom is going to change. I will miss these days, so I'm trying to enjoy them as much as possible.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO OTHER MOTHERS?
We were given our children because God knew we were the best mom for the job. On the rough days, remember you are doing an awesome job. No mom is perfect. And you were made the momma of your kids because you are uniquely meant for them and them for you.
